Gitzo GM2940 Series 2 Explorer Basalt Monopod

The Gitzo GM2940 Explorer Basalt Monopod is part of the Explorer series, will support up to 8.8 lb and yet still weighs less than 1.2 lb. It utilizes Gitzo's exclusive Basalt material, which is more durable and better at absorbing vibrations than aluminum models with similar dimensions. These legs are tougher than aluminum, yet are 20% lighter.

Created from volcanic rock, Gitzo has utilized the volcanic-based basalt to develop tripods of exceptional performance, stability, and durability. The basalt, a black lightweight rock, is pulverized, then melted at extreme temperature (2732° F) and combined with other materials and spun into a strong fiber which is used to create multi-layer composite tubing. The result is a non-rotating tube of exceptional performance that meets the demands of today's professional photographers.
