Doug's Bio

I'm a 45 year old, Native San Diegan, who is a father of two wonderful boys, Ryan and Timothy, and currently am engaged to Patricia (We're thinking sometime in 2009). I'm a former U.S. Marine who served his Country proudly, including some time as a member of the Presidential Support Unit for President Ronald Reagan. For several years, I worked in Xtreme Sports and Hockey, I own and operate Black Water Photography ("Douglas" means "Black Water" in Celtic).

"Semper Fidelis"- Always Faithful

"US Marines- No Greater a Friend, No Worse an Enemy"

"People spend their entire lives wondering if they have made a difference in the world.

Marines never seem to have that problem".- President Ronald Reagan

I've been into birding since I was 12 years old, and into Photography since 1979, Becoming a serious birder in 1987, I started to chase rare birds all across California and Arizona with occasional trips elsewhere in the United States. I'm now into all things nature,  that I happen to come across, but I specialize in Birds &  Dragonfly/Damselfly photography and study.

I've been very fortunate in having my photography published and used world-wide in several books and newspapers, and brochures and other ways, but my biggest coup was when the Associated Press, picked up a story and one one of my images and it went world wide in major newspapers and News websites.

I'm a Life member of The Western Field Ornithologists, and a Regular member of the Dragonfly Society of the Americas. A Regular member of the American Cetacean Society, &  I'm also the President for Life of the Tijuana River Valley Ornithological Society of North America, and a Regular member of the National Rifle Association. I financially support the Nature Conservancy, and the Anti-Whaling groups Greenpeace and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

My other interest besides Nature Photography is Home Theater, Metal Detecting, Collecting Frank Schirman's carved Black Coral & Wood sculptures of the Hawaiian race, & Collecting Combat knives and guns.

I hope that you enjoy this website and my photography.
